NFPA Grant Program for fluid power projects

NFPA is committed to finding ways to develop a better understanding of motion control through fluid power. That's why the association offers a funding program in support of fluid power-related research which is the focus of these grants.

Examples of supported activities at technical college, and university undergraduate and graduate programs:

  • Grants must support inquiry into topics related to the fluid power industry.

  • All technical college and university members of NFPA will be eligible to participate in this program.

  • Proposed research projects are not required to be of a specific length.

Prioritized List of Grant Research Areas:

Priority Level 1 (Highest)
Topic A Robust low cost sensors (pressure, flow, position, speed, temperature and/or multiples thereof)
Topic B  True zero leak solutions on all sealing surfaces (shaft seals, section seals, fittings, etc.)
Topic C Component and systems simulation modeling
Topic D High efficiency solutions for hydraulic systems (i.e., throttle less valving, etc.)
Priority Level 2
Topic A Methodologies to make fluid power positioning tolerancing equivalent to typical industrial electric based positioning systems
Topic B Friction reducing and/or heat resistant coatings
Topic C Light weight and/or high strength materials
Topic D Hydraulics systems advanced control algorithms
Topic E Wireless data transmission
Priority Level 3
Topic A Oil additives for increased life and/or heavy-duty cycles
Topic B NVH simulation prediction and reduction thereof
Topic C Advanced CFD simulation (i.e., cavitation prediction)
