IFPE 2008 - Wildly Successful
Thank you for helping to make IFPE 2008 an overwhelming success. Participation by attendees and exhibitors broke all records this year. IFPE 2008 was the largest in its history with more than 129,000 net square feet of exhibit space and 469 exhibitors – a 16 percent increase in space compared to 2005. The show was held on March 11 – 15, 2008 at the Las Vegas convention Center in Las Vegas, NV.

Attendance
A record number of industry professionals visited IFPE and CONEXPO-CON/AGG, 144,600 representing the United States and more than 130 other countries.

International Summit
On March 13, NFPA hosted the International Fluid Power Summit, a forum for the exchange of information on the fluid power industry worldwide and an opportunity for peer associations to identify global challenges facing the industry and work together to devise strategies to confront them. Presentations of the state of fluid power market in 11 regions of the world were given, with all the slides accessible at http://www.iscstats.com. Discussion also began regarding the establishment of a program for fluid power certification that is recognized and transportable across the globe.

NFPA also hosted the International Statistics Committee, where representatives from fluid power associations around the world met to discuss international statistical/data collection programs. NFPA was joined by representatives from many countries including Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.

Technical Conference
On March 12 – 14, IFPE’s Technical Conference was hosted by NFPA. Experts in the fluid power field presented sessions featuring Power Transmission, Hydraulic Fluids, and Fluid Power/Motion Control. The new Electronic Controls Symposium was well attended. The IFPE Technical Conference continues to be the #1 resource for information on the latest research for the design engineering community.

A record number of 110 presentations covering the latest power transmission and motion control practices and ideas were discussed and included:

•  Asset Management
•  Computational Fluid Dynamics
•  Electronics Symposium
•  Filtration/Contamination
•  Fluids Hybrid Systems
•  Hydraulic Systems
•  Hydraulic Valves
•  Mechanical
•  Modeling/Simulation
•  Plumbing, Piping, Fittings
•  Pneumatics
•  Pumps/Motors/Hydrostatic Transmissions
•  Seals/Sealing
•  Suspensions
•  Vehicle Systems
•  Water Hydraulics

The 51st NCFP Proceedings of the IFPE Technical Conference will soon be available in the NFPA Online Store.

Innovations & Solutions
On March 11 – 15, NFPA hosted the Innovations and Solutions Center at the show. Experts were at hand to present real-world solutions for current and future design applications. Several sessions also unveiled exciting new research and developments taking place at the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power—the industry's new Engineering Research Center funded in part by the National Science Foundation. Topics included:

Green Solutions – hydraulic hybrids (passenger vehicles and system technologies), renewable energy, Tier 4, and environmentally-friendly fluids.
Motion Control Solutions Now and in the Future – electro-hydraulics and motion control for mobile equipment hydraulics.
Fluid Power Solutions – mobile hydraulics, hydraulic fluids, hydraulic braking and steering solutions, hose routing, seal designs, contamination control, and the future of fluid power.
Innovative Applications in the Entertainment Industry – amazing applications of pneumatic, hydraulic and electronic technologies in theme parks, movies and live production shows.

Member Reception
On March 12, NFPA hosted a member reception to celebrate the record-breaking success of IFPE 2008. Photos of the event can be viewed here.

Mark your calendar for IFPE 2011
IFPE 2011 is scheduled for March 22 – 26, 2011 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. The conference will once again be co-located with CONEXPO-Con/AGG. Please check online for more details: www.ifpe.com.
