Why Standardize?

Our society, economy and industry need standards because they:

  • enable products to work interchangeably or together;

  • provide assurance that a product can deliver a certain level of performance; and

  • provide the tools (for example, symbols and terminology) that make it easier for designers, manufacturers and users to communicate.

Every day we use thousands of standardized items—the light bulb in your lamp, the electrical plug on your hair dryer, the film in your camera, to name a few. Standards simplify our lives.

Find a Standard

Search for draft and published fluid power standards, and see additional information about each standard, including its scope, status and price.

Buy a Standard

Purchase fluid power industry standards (ISO, ANSI and NFPA). NFPA members receive discounted rates by logging in.

Developing Standards

NFPA coordinates standardization work in many areas of activity. Participants are welcome to work on as many committees, or as few, as they wish, on any and all levels.

Guidelines and Forms

These free downloadable documents can help you select the right fluid power component and apply it most effectively. Some provide guidelines for practices and procedures in fluid power testing laboratories.
