Developing Fluid Power Standards:
Process and Coordination
Overview of standards development
processes
The following flowcharts provide a detailed
look at the processes through which NFPA and American National
Standards are developed. It also shows the points at which the
decision is made to develop a project at the ISO, ANSI or NFPA
level.
It is important to note that the procedure for
developing American National Standards changed significantly
as of November 2004. New procedures, developed in response to
new requirements from ANSI, were approved by ANSI, the NFPA
Technical Board and Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) B93;
ASC B93 had been the committee that approved American
National Standards for fluid power. The new
procedures were developed to streamline the process and to
make it as consistent as possible with the process of
developing NFPA standards. The flowcharts in the files below
reflect the latest procedures.
Now, you can register to receive
ballots for approval of new American National Standards, as
well as reaffirmations, revisions or withdrawals of existing
American National Standards. Click here
