Hydraulic hose assembly application guidelines
Learn how to select, route, fabricate, install, replace, maintain and store hydraulic hose and hose assemblies
Presenter: Luis Moreiras, Parker Hannifin Corp./Hose Products Div. (retired) and Hydraulic Technical Services LLC
Hose assemblies are key components of many hydraulic systems, and properly applying and using them results in safer, more reliable systems. Learn more about how to select, route, fabricate, install, replace, maintain and store hydraulic hose and hose assemblies from an expert with more than 30 years of experience in the field. Mr. Moreiras’ presentation is based on ISO/TS 17165-2, the ISO document on the application of hydraulic hose and hose assemblies.

Held November 7, 2012
Better contamination control through better contamination measurement
Getting more accurate data on hydraulic system contamination

Presenter: Barry Verdegan, Research Fellow, Cummins Filtration, Inc.
Particle counting properly done is a tool for managing maintenance costs and ensuring reliable operation of machinery that uses hydraulics. Particle counting done incorrectly can lead to unnecessary service or impending failure that is not detected in time. This webinar will focus on ISO 11500, Hydraulic fluid power – Determination of particulate contamination level of a liquid sample by automatic particle counting using the light-extinction principle. Use of ISO 11500 enables sound, data-based contamination control and service decisions, reducing operating costs and improving reliability.

Held September 18, 2012
Unlocking the mysteries of pneumatic flow rating
Using new, more accurate methods to measure flow rating and improve pneumatic component and system performance

Presenter: John Berninger, Consultant, Parker Hannifin Corp.
The flow capacity of a pneumatic component is a key performance characteristic, and changes to ISO standards for determining flow capacity provide for greater accuracy in measuring this characteristic. This allows machine designers to more easily choose the right component for the system. This webinar will describe the new test methods in easy-to-understand terms and describe the advantages of using parameters C and b over CV¬, the parameter most commonly used North America.

Held July 19, 2012
Improving performance and protecting the environment through better system design
Preventing leakage in hydraulic systems
Presenter: Phil Robinson, Consultant, Parker Hannifin Corp.
External leakage in hydraulic systems represents not only fluid loss, with its attendant costs and safety and environmental concerns, but energy loss as well. Reliable sealing and proper system design can prevent this damaging leakage and improve the safety, efficiency and reliability of the hydraulic system. The presenter will share how ISO and NFPA standards, particularly NFPA/T2.24.2, can help people to design, build and maintain leak-free hydraulic systems.

Held March 29, 2012
A clean system is a happy (and more reliable) system

Using ISO standards in the selection and application of hydraulic filters
Presenter: Leonard Bensch, Consultant, Pall Corporation
Historically, particulate contamination in the fluid in a hydraulic system has been the major cause of component and system failure. Today, contamination control is much more a science than in the past. With the technology available today, there is no reason to continue to allow dirt to be the major machine life limiter.
Filters are installed on nearly every system with the intent to control the contamination. ISO standards exist for evaluating most performance characteristics of a filter, and a new ISO document, ISO/TR 15640, covers the general principles and guidelines for selecting and applying hydraulic filters. This webinar presents a synopsis of the new ISO document, including discussions of contamination and the damage it causes; methods of contaminant measurement and reporting; and methods for determining and setting the required cleanliness level to protect a system. Finally, guidelines are given for filter selection and application.

Held January 26, 2012
Safe, reliable and efficient pneumatic systems
Using ISO 4414 to design better pneumatic systems
Presenter: Gary Baumgardner, Chief Engineer, Parker Hannifin Corp.
The safety of those who work with and around machines is of ever-increasing importance in today’s business environment, as are the reliability and efficiency of those machines. ISO 4414, Pneumatic fluid power – General rules and safety requirements for systems and their components, provides guidance on how to design and build pneumatic systems that enhance a machine’s safety, reliability and efficiency.

Strategic Pricing

Held October 24, 2012
Increasing Margins Through a More Strategic Approach to Pricing
Using new, more accurate methods to measure flow rating and improve pneumatic component and system performance

Presenter: Dave Lienert, Strategic Pricing Associates
Dave Lienert of Strategic Pricing Associates discusses the benefits, and some of the methods, of moving from undisciplined and reactive pricing practices to an analytical approach that maximizes margins based on customer market size and price sensitivity. His presentation also addresses practical matters of how this approach benefits your sales force.
This webinar was brought to you as a member service resulting from discussion at a meeting of the NFPA Distributor Council.
