The family of Charles “Chuck” Bert has graciously donated two binders of his papers on air logic to NFPA.   Air logic is the area of pneumatics that uses compressed air to provide signal sensing and information processing or energy control.  It is often used in environments where electrical or electronic control could lead to a hazardous situation.

Mr. Bert was a key member of the NFPA technical committee that wrote standards for diagramming moving parts fluid controls and educated the industry about air logic by giving many papers and presentations on the subject.  The papers donated to NFPA include many of these papers, presentations and articles.  He also served as president of the Rockford, IL chapter of the Fluid Power Society from 1973 to 1974.

NFPA would like to thank Mr. Bert’s family for gathering these papers and donating them to NFPA, not only for the technical content but also for a glimpse of the fluid power industry in the late 1960s and early 1970s.  If you are interested in reviewing them, please contact Karen Boehme at 414-778-3345 or kboehme@nfpa.com.
