Online Instructions for NFPA Fluid Power Challenge Provide Members with Ideal Way to Introduce Fluid Power to Students

Any member company, technical school or university can hold an NFPA Fluid Power Challenge event. All you need is a big enough space, teams of middle school students and a desire to have fun while learning about fluid power. Complete instructions for holding a Challenge event are now available online. They include a timetable, budget, rules, sample e-mails and press releases, along with forms that local organizers can use and customize for their individual events. The availability and easy-access of these instructions will greatly expand the number of Challenges being held across the country. The NFPA Fluid Power Challenge is a competition that challenges eighth grade students to solve an engineering problem using hydraulics and pneumatics. The students work in teams of four, two boys and two girls, to design and build a fluid power mechanism, and then compete against other teams in a timed competition.
