Research Supplements & Grants

2018-19 NFPA Research Supplements

NFPA Research Supplements are not grants for new research. They provide funds to principal investigators with existing research grants to facilitate their participation and presentation at designated industry conferences and research summits. 

Supplement Amount: $9,000

Application Deadline: August 1, 2018

Award Notification: Recipients will be informed by August 10, 2018. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be the principal investigator on a research award that represents at least $50,000 in funding for the investigator’s institution.
  • The objective of the research project must be related to fluid power components or systems.

Program Requirements:

  • Recipient will attend and present their research project at the two summits of the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP), to be scheduled for October 2018 and April 2019.
  • Recipient will encourage their graduate students to apply for NFPA Research Student Travel Grants and attend the same events.
  • Recipient will present their research project on one of the CCEFP webinars scheduled for the 2018-19 academic year.
  • Recipient agrees that any funds not used to support their participation and presentation at the events will be used as supplemental support of their research project.

Review Process:

  • Applications will be reviewed by CCEFP to assess quality and alignment with CCEFP research objectives and summit program content.
  • If the number of applications vetted by the CCEFP exceed the available funding, a subcommittee of the NFPA Roadmap Committee will select recipients based on the research projects it deems most closely aligned with the research challenges described in the NFPA Technology Roadmap.

2018-19 NFPA Research Student Travel Grants

NFPA Research Student Travel Grants provide funds to graduate students working on fluid power research projects to facilitate their participation and presentation at designated industry conferences and research summits.

Travel Grant Amount: $500 per event 

Application Deadlines: August 1, 2018 and February 15, 2019 

Award Notification: Recipients will be informed by August 10, 2018 and March 1, 2018. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a graduate student working on a research project whose principal investigator has received an NFPA Research Supplement.

Program Requirements:

  • Recipient will attend and, if requested, present their research project at one or both of the two summits of the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP), to be scheduled for October 2018 and April 2019.
  • Recipient agrees that any funds not used to support their participation and presentation at the events will be used as supplemental support of their research project.

Review Process:

  • Applications will be reviewed by CCEFP to assess quality and alignment with CCEFP research objectives and summit program content.
  • If the number of applications vetted by the CCEFP exceed the available funding, a qualified member of the NFPA staff will select recipients based on the order of application.

Notes:

  • Students can apply in one or both of the award periods.
  • With the approval of NFPA, principal investigators may be able to substitute another qualified student if the student receiving the award is subsequently unable to attend a summit.
