In 2024, NFPA launched its Controls, IoT, and Data (CID) membership category – a place for the members who provide electronic controls, sensor technology, and/or data management services to have greater influence within our association, and to help us all better adapt to the changing fluid power technology landscape. Since that time, more than 20 companies have engaged at this level, and have helped drive several initiatives within our organization.
At its June 2026 meeting, the NFPA Board approved two changes to CID membership, designed to further increase engagement around these critical technologies:
- The requirement that CID technologies be the primary business of a member company has been eliminated. Now, any company that produces these technologies or provides these services, even if they are part of a broader portfolio of fluid power products and services, is eligible for CID membership. - A new CID Task Force is being launched to draw a broader constituency into these discussions and to help advance projects of importance to the fluid power industry. The previous CID Council was restricted to CID members only. The CID Task Force is open to all membership types. Anyone with interest in electronic controls, sensor technology, and/or data management services is encouraged to participate in the CID Task Force.
