NFPA Members Engage with Students at NCC's Inaugural Fluid Power Event

Written by Erin Bauer | Oct 22, '25
Earlier this month, NFPA member companies attended a Fast Track to Fluid Power launch event at Northampton Community College (NCC) in suburban Philadelphia. The event brought together five NFPA member companies, IFPS, and NCC instructors to engage with over 20 engineering students. Attendees enjoyed campus tours of labs, classroom visits, and networking opportunities with faculty over lunch. Thank you to HYDAC, Force America, Lehigh Fluid Power, Inc., Bosch Rexroth and GPM Controls for taking advantage of this opportunity.

NCC showcased its Career Exploratory Center, which features an impressive variety of hands-on trainers and provides multiple ways for potential students and their parents to explore technical programs throughout the year. NCC actively engages with an extensive network of local middle and high schools in the Lehigh Valley and fosters collaboration with several vocational schools and workforce development programs. Company representatives were able to speak directly with students about the wide range of career opportunities available through an education in fluid power and the value of IFPS certification.

Fast Track hubs are two-year colleges where activity can be centered near a network of NFPA members. These hubs are provided with resources for curriculum development in fluid power education and outreach events. NCC serves over 20,000 students annually in the Lehigh Valley, strategically equipping them with the education needed to enter the workforce or pursue further studies. Offering degrees, certificates, and diplomas in more than 120 fields, NCC integrates fluid power education within several engineering programs.

The long-term goal of the program is to build and maintain a successful Fast Track hub at NCC and host a cadence of Workforce Engagement Group meetings designed to bring NFPA members the latest information and activities happening in their local region. Heading into 2026, opportunities will include participation in a Discover Fluid Power Day to recruit new talent and involvement in NFPA’s Workforce Development programs such as the Fluid Power Action Challenge, which connects with local middle and high school students.
