Written by Ben Brown | Jul 23, '26

Hello again everybody, and welcome to the newest entry in the NFPA Standards Roundup article series! Each month, we provide a high-level recap of the latest standards development activities across ISO/TC 131.

While not as packed as May, June was an active month. Featuring two Working Group Meetings, decisions for the Fall Cluster of In-Person Meetings, as well as the release of Standard Reference Material (SRM) 2806e.

Working Group Meetings:

SC 7/WG 4: Rotary Shaft Lip Type Seals

Conversation in this meeting focused around ISO 6194-2 and 6194-6.

Regarding -2, Vocabulary, the experts discussed an in-depth comparison between ARPM OS-20 and ISO 6194-2. The group agreed that there should be greater alignment between the two standards, and agreed to a general revision to incorporate high priority updates.

The experts and national standards bodies will work to determine which areas should be focused on for this update.

Regarding -6, Specification of Materials, the group has agreed to include tensile strength, elongation at break, and other tensile properties into ongoing updates. The experts in the group are requested to provide suggestions for specific values.

The next meeting for SC 7/WG 4 is planned for Istanbul, Turkey in the upcoming Fall Meeting Cluster. More information can be found later in this article.

SC 6/WG 2: Hydraulic filter evaluation, cleanliness methods, and contamination analysis

There was a full house for SC 6/WG 2, with over 30 participants.

Conversation focused on ISO 11943-2, part of the re-organization of ISO 11943 into a two-part series. The Project Leader shared information regarding lab testing results up to this point, and a call for additional labs to provide more data.

There was also substantive debate on a potential new project for calibrating Dynamic Imaging Analyzers. A ballot has begun for more information to be regarding the scope of this project, title, and whether it needs to be a new project or can be incorporated into existing standards.

Additionally, there was conversation to clarify updates to ISO 16889.

The next meeting for SC 6/WG 2 is being planned for August 25th and will be conducted on Zoom.
