Power Partner Universities: Connecting Students to Fluid Power Careers

Written by Kyla Olson | Aug 20, '26

NFPA’s Power Partner University initiative showcases 4- year universities that provide a high level of fluid power education while actively participating in NFPA's Workforce Development Programs such as the Fluid Power Vehicle Challenge and the Fluid Power Club program. Power Partner Universities work with NFPA staff to host outreach and recruitment events that are smaller than a traditional career fair and exclusively for NFPA members to attend.

The primary objective of the Power Partner University program is to increase the amount of fluid power being taught in university engineering degree programs and to enhance student-to-industry connections. It showcases universities that actively participate in all NFPA fluid power educational programs that are designed to engage students from their freshman year of college to their senior year. These programs help to provide an touchpoint for students to become aware of our industry and the careers within it throughout their educational career as they explore and apply the technology in their projects.

Each Power Partner:

1. Invites NFPA members speak about types of fluid power careers, salaries, job outlooks, the types of degrees needed for each job, etc.

2. Has a Fluid Power Club that conducts fluid power projects and connects with NFPA industry members for mentorship or tech talks.

3. Forms a team to participate in the Vehicle Challenge: A unique engineering design competition that strives to promote original thinking in a competitive setting by combining technology platforms that are not normally associated with one another —human-powered vehicles and fluid power. This program also connects university students to NFPA industry members through mentorship and competition judging. 4. Hosts an Outreach and Recruitment event on their campus. These events are smaller than a traditional career fair and exclusively for NFPA members to attend.

The following universities have an Outreach and Recruitment event scheduled this academic year. Click through to learn more about the event and register:
