Econ Market Indicators Report: Latest Trends Available and More

NFPA’s Econ and Market Indicators (EMI) report pulls together data from multiple sources to provide the latest trends for:

  • Customer Markets (U.S. Census Bureau)
  • Economic Indicators (U.S. Census Bureau)
  • Industrial Production (Federal Reserve)
  • Capacity Utilization (Federal Reserve)
  • Producer Price Index (Bureau of Labor Statistics)

Members can view individual series and apply different calculations such as moving averages and rates of change. Members can also compare rates of change between markets. Tables can be sorted by values for quick looks at growing and declining markets.

Some highlights from the report include:

  • Mining & Energy Capacity is Growing
    • Capacity utilization for coal mining jumped +5.6% m/m, showing a notable short-term rebound. Coal mining also showed the strongest y/y growth at 8.3% in August. Combined with high PPI values in energy production, this reinforces tight capacity and high pricing power in the energy sector.
  • Machinery and Electronics Lead Industrial Growth
    • Semiconductors and Farm Machinery industrial production indexes grew 16.2% and 7.6%, respectively, signaling strength in tech and improvements in agricultural equipment production. Automotive Equipment’s index surged nearly 29.5%, leading all industrial production indices in August.
  • Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals Maintain Growth
    • Pharmaceutical industrial production remains elevated at 133.1, showing strong long-term demand. Chemical manufacturing categories saw modest gains, supporting steady output in downstream sectors like healthcare and manufacturing.
