NFPA's New Case Study Explores the Future of Decentralized Hydraulic System Architectures

NFPA has released its second technology-focused case study, developed in collaboration with Bosch Rexroth, exploring new system architectures to improve controls, energy efficiency, noise reduction, reliability, power, and safety.

As defined in NFPA’s technology roadmaps, there are several machine-level technology trends actively shaping the future of the fluid power industry. One such area of development is exploring new system architectures to improve controls, energy efficiency, noise reduction, reliability, power, and safety.

This new case study explores decentralized hydraulic system architectures through an unexpected application: Bosch Rexroth’s 8-foot animatronic “T-Rexroth” at the Da Vinci Science Center. By combining localized hydraulic power with advanced sensors and controls, the system demonstrates design principles increasingly relevant to mobile equipment. This application offers a unique look at how decentralized architectures can support more efficient packaging, precise control, responsive performance, and easier maintenance in the next generation of machines.
