Open Doors, Open Minds: Celebrate MFG Day with NFPA

Each year, manufacturers across America open their doors to show their communities what manufacturing really looks like in honor of MFG Day (Manufacturing Day), an initiative of The Manufacturing Institute, a workforce development and education partner of the National Association of Manufacturers. This year, MFG Day is October 3rd, but Manufacturing Month is celebrated throughout October.

NFPA supports MFG Day through our own programs and by encouraging members to take advantage of opportunities like MFG Day to inspire the next generation of skilled workers. Traditionally, MFG Day has consisted of facility tours. However, NFPA members can take different approaches as well, including:

  • Events Hosted by NFPA Educator Partners:
    • 10/24/25 - Triton College Fluid Power Manufacturing Day - River Grove, IL
      • 3 members are needed to participate as exhibitors and speakers on a Career Q&A panel in Suburban Chicago.  Local high school students, Triton College students, and community members will be attending to explore Triton and their fluid power curriculum.

    • 10/24/25 - Houston Community College (HCC) Manufacturing Day - Stafford, TX
      • 2 members are needed to participate as exhibitors at a career awareness event in Suburban Houston. Local high school students, HCC students, and community members will be attending to explore HCC and learn about career opportunities in manufacturing.
    • 10/30/25 – Milwaukee Public Schools Skilled Trades & Technical Career Fair
      • MPS students are invited to an event at Milwaukee Tool (551 N. 5th St., Milwaukee, WI 53203), where vendors will exhibit and speak about fluid power careers; vendors are still needed for this event. Please register each attendee by Friday, October 17, 2025, at http://mpsmke.com/techfair25, and note that Milwaukee Tool’s NDA, available through MPS, must be signed.
  • Speaker's Bureau:
    • The Speaker’s Bureau is an opportunity to inspire and excite students about career opportunities in the fluid power industry. To help, NFPA has a draft presentation template available for use. Efforts like this not only get more students aware of and excited about careers in fluid power but can also make recruitment easier for the companies involved. We have a variety of educators and robotics teams from middle school to 4-year university who request NFPA members to speak with their students throughout the year.
