SUNY Poly Hosts Successful First Fluid Power Recruitment Event

Last year, the NFPA welcomed the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) into our Power Partner program, recognizing the Utica, NY campus as a vital hub for fluid power talent. Last week, we celebrated this partnership by hosting our first on-campus recruitment event.

We extend our gratitude to NFPA member companies Ralph W. Earl and Bosch Rexroth for their support in inspiring students to explore careers in fluid power. Approximately 50 students from SUNY’s College of Engineering attended, and our members reported being highly impressed with the talent pool. They are eager to maintain this connection as SUNY Poly continues to expand its fluid power education initiatives.

SUNY Poly has made a significant commitment to preparing students for the industry. Beyond an active Fluid Power Club and participation in the Fluid Power Vehicle Challenge, the university launched a new “Fluid Power Technology” course this spring—made possible by an NFPA grant. This course aligns with the competencies NFPA members have identified as crucial for industry success.

Additionally, last year alone, three senior design teams completed innovative projects, including a hydraulically powered water tower, a traction control scooter, and a pneumatically powered maze table. These projects provide students with the hands-on experience and problem-solving skills that employers value.

This growing investment demonstrates both strong student interest and SUNY Poly’s dedication to producing graduates ready for the fluid power industry.
